GUIDING YOU THROUGH YOUR LOFT CONVERSION
At Touchwood Carpentry & Construction Ltd, we’re here to support you at every stage of your loft conversion project, providing expert guidance and ensuring you understand any queries or regulations along the way. When considering your loft conversion, it’s important to think about:
-
Fixtures and fittings
-
Built-in wardrobes or other furniture
-
If you’re having a bathroom, what kind of shower or bath you want
-
Window style, quantity, and size, including ventilation
-
Curtains or blinds preferences
-
Number of electrical sockets needed

One of the simplest ways to check your loft’s suitability is to observe neighbouring properties—if similar homes have loft conversions, that’s a positive indication that yours may also be suitable. As we also specialise in staircases and fitted furniture, you can seamlessly integrate new spaces while improving flow and functionality. With various options, including dormer, roof window, mansard, and hip-to-gable conversions, we deliver tailored, high-quality craftsmanship on time and within budget. TYPES OF LOFT CONVERSION

DORMER LOFT CONVERSION
A dormer conversion adds a structure to the existing roof slope, increasing headroom and floor space. It’s ideal for extra bedrooms, offices, or guest rooms and can be styled with flat, pitched, or hipped roofs to suit your property.

MANSARD LOFT CONVERSION
A mansard conversion alters the roof structure to maximise internal space, making it perfect for urban homes with steep roofs. It provides excellent headroom and versatility for master bedrooms, studies, or home cinemas.

ROOF WINDOW LOFT CONVERSION
A roof window conversion is a cost-effective option that installs windows into the existing roof slope. It enhances natural light and ventilation and is often suitable where planning permission is not required.

HIP-TO-GABLE LOFT CONVERSION
A hip-to-gable conversion extends a sloping roof into a vertical gable, creating valuable extra space. It’s ideal for homes with hipped roofs and works well for bedrooms, gyms, or playrooms.

STEP-BY-STEP LOFT CONVERSION GUIDE
At Touchwood Carpentry & Construction Ltd, our loft conversion process is designed to ensure every project is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. The process begins with a thorough inspection of the roof space to assess suitability, including height, access, and any obstacles. An architect or surveyor then confirms the loft’s suitability for conversion, creates detailed plans, and provides a basis for cost analysis. Once approved by Building Control, the loft is cleared and prepped for work. The existing wiring and pipes are checked and moved as needed, which makes it possible to improve the plumbing and electrical systems. New floor joists are fitted, followed by insulation between the joists, and tongue-and-groove chipboard floorboards are laid to create a strong, level surface. Rafters are reinforced to open up the space, and dormers are installed where applicable. Rooflights are fitted to bring in natural light, staircases are installed according to design and regulations, and finally dormers are fully tiled and vented, and windows are fitted, providing a safe, functional, and beautifully finished loft.
